Ingrown toenail
An ingrown toenail occurs when the nail edge irritates or breaks the surrounding skin. Increasing redness, drainage, severe pain or concerns related to diabetes or circulation require prompt professional assessment.
Corns and calluses
Corns and calluses are areas of thickened skin that develop in response to pressure or friction. Management may include safe skin care, pressure relief and footwear changes.
Fungal nail changes
Fungal nail infection can cause thickening, discolouration or crumbling. Because other nail conditions can look similar, assessment is useful before treatment is chosen.
Plantar warts
Plantar warts are caused by human papillomavirus and may become painful under weight-bearing areas. A foot-care provider can help confirm the diagnosis and discuss treatment options.
Diabetes-related foot care
Diabetes can affect circulation, sensation and healing in the feet. Regular inspection and timely assessment of skin breaks, pressure areas or nail problems are especially important.
